Auckland flooding: New Zealand ‘clobbered’ with record-breaking downpour and massive floods

New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, was flooded on Friday by a record-breaking downpour that resulted in more than 2,000 emergency calls, more than 700 incidents across the region, leaving at least three people dead and two missing.

The rainiest day on record for the city, which is home to 1.6 million people, has led to a state of emergency being declared.

The downpour caused flooding in many areas and reached the city’s international airport, leaving hundreds stranded overnight in terminals and widespread flight cancellations.
