Family’s anguish after California police kill black double amputee | World


The family of a disabled black man who was shot dead by police in California have demanded justice after a video surfaced showing police shooting him as he tried to flee.

Anthony Lowe Jr., a 36-year-old double amputee, was filmed jumping out of his wheelchair and trying to escape police in Huntington Park, south Los Angeles, when he was tasered and then several fired once last week. Three officers fired at least eight shots at the father of two, who died at the scene.

Police said Low, who had a butcher knife, had just stabbed someone in an unprovoked attack and that the officers feared he would throw a weapon at them. Lowe’s family questions how he was a threat
