Girl, five, cheats death when drink-driver crashes into her and knocks her through a window
A five-year-old girl cheats death when a motorist crashes into her by breaking a driving school window, but she leaves almost unharmed… three months after ANOTHER drunk driver crashes into her car
- Video surveillance showed the moment when the car ran into a motorcyclist and knocked down Maria Luisa
- Maria was launched through a window into a row of metal office chairs.
- But she somehow escaped serious injury with only a few superficial cuts.
A five-year-old girl narrowly escaped with several cuts after a drunk driver broke her window.
Horrifying CCTV footage of the incident from the Bonito driving school office showed the moment a beat-up dark hatchback swerved across the road towards little Marie-Louise, who was playing near a potted flower outside.
The car, knocked over by a motorcycle, stopped outside the office, knocking its 60-year-old owner off his feet, and crashed into a potted plant, causing it and Maria to hit the office window, which immediately shattered.
Other footage taken inside the office shows the girl flying across the room and crashing into a row of metal chairs due to the force of the collision as the car scatters the bureau’s debris.
Maria is seen playing with a potted plant, completely unaware of the car speeding towards her. A motorcyclist hit by a car (left) is suspected of having a fractured femur and is taken to hospital complaining of chest pains.
When the motorcycle and its owner were already on the lawn, the car continued towards the factory and the girl, smashing them through the office window.
Maria can be seen a fraction of a second before the impact in this indoor security camera image.
She was thrown into metal-framed chairs, and the car scattered debris around the room.
For a moment it looked like the worst had happened.
But somehow, Maria jumped straight to her feet and threw herself into the arms of her father, who himself narrowly avoided a collision with a lost car outside.
Maria’s parents own a refrigeration business next door to a driving school and saw the horrific collision firsthand.
“We just finished work and went to sit in the front for a while… it happened so fast,” said Maria’s father.
“(Maria) had X-rays, CT scans, and nothing came out,” Maria’s mother told the Brazilian outlet Globo after it was revealed that her daughter had received nothing but a few minor cuts due to broken glass.
She went on to passionately urge people to reconsider their attitudes towards drunk driving.
Maria was thrown across the room onto a metal bench, but she immediately jumped to her feet.
The girl is seen running towards her father outside the office moments after being smashed through the window and room.
He picks her up and carries her into daylight to wait for an ambulance.
“From the moment they drink, they should know that it is dangerous. I thank God that today she is here with us. I just have to thank you because it was very difficult,” she said.
Incredibly, this is not the first time little Maria has been in such close contact.
Her parents told Globo that just three months ago, she was in a car that was rammed by another drunk driver and required 26 stitches to her head.
Firefighters and police were called to the scene of the incident, which took place on Saturday afternoon in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene and was immediately arrested when a test showed he was intoxicated.
A police spokesman said the suspect likely fell asleep at the wheel after the driver claimed he could not remember the event but admitted to drinking with friends before driving.
Maria escaped with minimal injuries, but a 60-year-old motorcyclist who had an accident was taken to the hospital with chest pains and a suspected fracture of the femur.
The investigation into the incident continues.
