A jewelry store worker was allegedly found by his colleagues after he was electrocuted while sleeping next to his mobile phone.

Putthawat Kamwan, 34, didn’t show up for work for three consecutive days, so worried colleagues decided to visit his apartment in Samut Prakan, Thailand.

However, when they entered his bedroom, they found that he had collapsed and laid out on the bed with his hand on his mobile phone.

Photographs from the scene show Mr. Kamwan’s bedroom with a charger and power cord lying next to his bed.

His colleague Pantatip Kantong, 22, said: “We work in a jewelry store. He was absent for three days and did not answer calls.

“After work, we went to his room, but found that his door was open. We went inside with the owner and found it.

Building owner Nattanit Hoharn, 31, said Putthawat stayed at home alone and was usually quiet in her room, so she didn’t think anything was wrong.

She said: “He was usually quiet and relaxing in his room or drinking cans of beer after work. We saw that his door was open. We thought he was just sick.

Police investigator Capt. Pongnarin Nontanok of Bang Phli Police Station said there was no evidence of an attack.

He said, “Putthawat Kamwan was still lying on his bed. His right hand also touched the charging phone.

“We did not find any traces of an attack. Based on the evidence, he’s been dead for at least three days.

“His corpse swelled up, and a disgusting stench spread from him around the room.”

Pongnarin added that a short circuit could have killed Putthawata because his hand was resting on a charging phone.

The police officer said: “Initial investigation reports indicated the presence of a phone and a charging cable, so it was suspected that the cause of death was electric shock.

“This was confirmed by an autopsy at Ramathibodi Chakri Narubodindra Hospital in Bangkok.”
