UK will not send fighter jets to Ukraine, Rishi Sunak says | World

Downing Street has joined the US in ruling out sending fighter jets to Ukraine after the Kremlin warned it would escalate the conflict.

When the Ukrainian government pleaded with European countries to provide jets to support the fight against Russia, Rishi Sunak said British fighters were too sophisticated to provide quick assistance.

A spokesman for the prime minister said: “British Typhoon and F35 fighters are extremely complex and take months to learn to fly. Given this, we consider it inappropriate to send these aircraft to Ukraine.

“We will continue to provide and accelerate our military support to Ukraine and listen carefully to their requests.
